Items after 7.41f: what changed in practice
coach breakdown of the patch notes
Infused RaindropsNerf
Raindrops give less mana regen: +0.6 instead of +0.8, the magic damage block is untouched.
Gives
Same 120 magic damage block on instances over 75 damage
Same 6 charges for 225 gold
Block cooldown is still 7 seconds
Lost
Mana regen dropped from 0.8 to 0.6
Who should buy: Mid players and anyone facing magic nukes in lane can keep buying it. The change is small, since you buy it for the block, not the mana.
How to use: Buy it when you face spammed magic spells dealing over 75 damage. If you're short on mana in lane, Raindrops cover that slightly worse now, so back it up with other regen sources.
Battle FuryBuff
Micro buff: Chop Tree cooldown is now 3s instead of 4s.
Gives
You can chop trees more often, every 3 seconds
Everything else unchanged: 60% cleave (40% vs creeps) in a cone up to 650, +50 damage, HP and mana regen
Who should buy: The same melee farming carries as before. This change barely affects the decision to buy it.
How to use: Use the active more often to cut paths and shortcuts between camps. Build the item for fast farming, same as before the patch.
DaedalusNerf
Daedalus costs 100 gold more: the recipe is now 1000, total 5200.
Gives
Same +88 damage
Same crit: 30% chance for 225% damage
Lost
Build is 100 gold more expensive (5100 → 5200)
Who should buy: Physical carries who rely on crits should still buy it. The nerf is purely to cost, and it's small.
How to use: The timing shifts only slightly. Account for the extra 100 gold on the recipe when planning your buys.
Dragon LanceNerf
Dragon Lance costs 100 more: the recipe is now 550, total 2000 gold.
Gives
Same +15 Agility, +10 Strength and +130 Attack Range
Lost
Lance is 100 gold more expensive
Because of this, Hurricane Pike now costs 4550 instead of 4450. Hydra's Breath total is unchanged (5900), since its recipe got 100 cheaper
Who should buy: Ranged carries who want range and stats can buy it as before. The change is small.
How to use: Lance comes 100 gold later. If you're going Hydra's Breath, you lose nothing overall: you pay more on Lance and less on the recipe. Pike ends up 100 more expensive in total.
Essence DistillerNerf
Mana regen reduced from 1.75 to 1.5, everything else unchanged.
Gives
+3 All Attributes, +6 Armor, +150 Mana
Same Soul Release active: 40 HP regen on an ally, or 25 damage per second and True Sight on an enemy, for 8 seconds
Lost
Mana regen dropped from 1.75 to 1.5
Who should buy: Same users as before, mostly supports. The nerf is small.
How to use: Use it as before: heal allies with the active, or ground-target it as a trap so it attaches to an enemy and reveals them with True Sight. Mana will be slightly tighter.
Heart of TarrasqueNerf
Heart costs 100 gold more: the recipe is now 800, total 5300.
Gives
Same +40 Strength
Same Behemoth's Blood: +1.5% of missing health as HP regen
Lost
Build is 100 gold more expensive (5200 → 5300)
Who should buy: Tanks and strength carries should buy it the same way. The nerf is cost-only and small.
How to use: The timing shifts by 100 gold. The item works the same: it regenerates the most when you're missing a lot of HP.
Heaven's HalberdBuff
Halberd is 100 cheaper: the recipe is now 350, total 3300.
Gives
Build is 100 gold cheaper
Same +9 Armor, +6.5 HP Regen, 25% Evasion
Same 3.5s disarm (15s cooldown, 25 mana)
Who should buy: Offlaners and anyone who needs to stop an enemy carry from attacking. The buff is small.
How to use: It comes together slightly faster. Use the disarm on the main physical damage dealer in a fight.
Hurricane PikeNerf
Pike now costs 4550 gold because Dragon Lance got more expensive. The item itself is unchanged.
Gives
Same stats and +130 range
Same active: pushes you and the enemy 425 apart and grants 5 attacks on the target without range limits, with +100 attack speed, for 5 seconds
Lost
Total is 100 gold more expensive (4450 → 4550)
Who should buy: Ranged carries who need a save from enemies who jump on them can buy it as before. The nerf is small.
How to use: Use it as before: push away an enemy who jumped on you and finish them with attacks at range. The final timing shifts by 100 gold.
Hydra's BreathMixed
Effectively no change: the recipe dropped to 1000, Lance went up, total stays at 5900.
Gives
Finishing from an owned Lance is cheaper: the recipe is 1000 instead of 1100
Miasma and Polycephaly passives are unchanged
Lost
The Dragon Lance component is 100 more expensive, so the total is the same
Who should buy: The same ranged carries as before. Nothing changed for them.
How to use: Build it as before. You just spend 100 more on Lance and 100 less on the final recipe.
Manta StyleNerf
Ranged Manta illusions hit weaker: 25% damage instead of 28%.
Gives
Same stats, Basic Dispel and 2 illusions for 18 seconds
Melee illusions still deal 33% damage
Lost
Ranged illusion damage dropped from 28% to 25%
Who should buy: Nothing changed for melee heroes. Ranged carries get less damage from illusions, but the dispel and stats remain.
How to use: Ranged heroes should lean more on Manta for the dispel and stats rather than illusion damage. Illusions still take 300% damage.
Mask of MadnessNerf
MoM lifesteal reduced: 22% instead of 24%, and 13.2% instead of 14.4% vs creeps.
Gives
Same +20 damage
Same Berserk: +100 attack speed for 6 seconds
Lost
Less lifesteal vs heroes (24% → 22%)
Less lifesteal vs creeps (14.4% → 13.2%), so jungle farming is slightly less sustainable
Who should buy: The same carries who farm with MoM. The nerf is small.
How to use: Healing while farming and in fights is slightly weaker. Be careful with Berserk: it removes 7 armor and silences you.
MjollnirNerf
Static Charge now lasts 12s instead of 15s.
Gives
Chain Lightning passive unchanged: 25% chance, 180 damage, up to 12 targets
Same +90 attack speed and +25 damage
Lost
The Static Charge shield lasts 3 seconds less, so it has time for fewer procs
Who should buy: The same players who bought Mjollnir for attack speed and chain lightning. The nerf only affects the active.
How to use: Cast Static Charge right before a fight or on an ally about to be attacked, otherwise the shield may expire before anyone hits it.
Octarine CoreNerf
Octarine Core costs 200 gold more: the recipe went from 200 to 400, total cost from 4900 to 5100.
Gives
Stats are untouched: +25% Cooldown Reduction, +450 Mana, +6 Mana Regen
Lost
More expensive to finish: +200 gold total (5100 instead of 4900)
Who should buy: Same players who bought it before for cooldown reduction and mana. The item does exactly the same thing, just slightly pricier. A small change that barely affects the decision to buy it.
How to use: Use it as before. Just remember the recipe now needs 400 gold instead of 200, so your timing shifts slightly.
SatanicNerf
Satanic's passive lifesteal is lower: from 30% to 25% vs heroes and from 18% to 15% vs creeps.
Gives
Still +25 Strength and +25 Damage
Unholy Rage active is unchanged: 175% lifesteal for 6 seconds with a Basic Dispel, 40s cooldown
Lost
Passive lifesteal dropped from 30% to 25%
Creep lifesteal dropped from 18% to 15%, so you heal less while farming
Who should buy: Carries who bought Satanic can still go for it, since strength, damage and the active are intact. But if you relied mostly on the passive heal, especially while farming, you now sustain noticeably less.
How to use: Lean more on the active: pop Unholy Rage in fights to heal at 175% and Basic Dispel debuffs off yourself. Passive sustain alone is now more modest.
Shiva's GuardNerf
Shiva's Guard Arctic Blast damage reduced from 260 to 225.
Gives
+17 Armor
Arctic Blast still slows by -40% for 4 seconds in an 825 radius
Freezing Aura of -40 enemy attack speed in a 1200 radius is unchanged
Lost
Arctic Blast deals 35 less damage: 225 instead of 260 magical damage
Who should buy: If you bought Shiva's for armor, the aura and the slow, you'll barely feel it. It's slightly worse for those who used the active as a damage source, like for clearing.
How to use: Use Arctic Blast at the start of fights for the -40% slow over 4 seconds. Damage is now 225, so count on it less for finishing off enemies or clearing.
Silver EdgeNerf
Silver Edge's Shadow Walk cooldown went from 22s to 23s, and the invisibility movement speed bonus dropped from 22% to 20%.
Gives
+70 Damage, +35 Attack Speed
Breaking invisibility with an attack still deals 300 bonus physical damage, disables passives for 5 seconds and caps the target's movement speed at 200
Invisibility lasts up to 17 seconds and lets you move through units
Lost
Shadow Walk cooldown increased from 22s to 23s
Invisibility movement speed +20% instead of +22%
Who should buy: A minor nerf. If you bought Silver Edge for initiation and to break passives, it's still a fine pick.
How to use: Play it as before: go invisible and open with an attack on a key target for the 5-second break and 300 damage. You'll reach the target slightly slower and wait one extra second for the next use.
